Massage is a powerful way to relax the mind and body, and address areas of muscle tension. It has long been hailed as one of the most effective non-medicinal solutions to stress and tension, and has been used in cultures throughout the world for thousands of years.
But not everyone has enjoyed a massage before, and the first time you get a massage it can be an interesting experience. DEEP Relief Austin is based in Austin, Texas. While we strive to provide you with a custom massage experience, it does help to be prepared. The following are some of the things you can expect from your massage appointment.
Once you arrive at the office, we’ll first talk about what you’ve been experiencing. Do you have specific areas that are causing you discomfort? What kind of work do you do? What brought you in for a massage?
Since it will be your first appointment, you may fill out our intake form so that we can learn more about you. We’ll also find out what kind of pressure you enjoy and your pain tolerance. There are massages that range from gentle to firm.
Before the Massage
We’ll take you to a room where you can privately get undressed and ready for your massage. Undress only as much as you’re comfortable – some people prefer to be completely unclothed. Others are more comfortable wearing some undergarments. You’ll be covered by a sheet for privacy.
Before you get undressed, you’ll be instructed on how to prepare depending on the type of massage. Most of the time, you’ll lie on a massage table, face down, with a sheet pulled over you. Our Austin massage therapists will check on you, and come in only when you’re ready.
During the Massage
There will be some calming muscle playing and dim lighting. Aromatherapy will help you relax. Your masseuse will then begin performing the massage you selected. There are many different massage techniques, including:
We’ll discuss in advance what each style entails. You’ll feel pressure against your muscles as the knots are worked out. Deeper massage can have some mild discomfort as we get deep into the muscle fibers, but that's usually in a "hurts so good" kinda way. If you are uncomfortable in any way, please let your therapist know, your comfort is our priority. Once we’ve completed one section, we move to another.
After the Massage
Once the massage is over, you’ll be given an opportunity to dress. You will also be encouraged to drink water, as the muscles can use the refreshment. You’ll also be given any after care instructions that you need.
Massage is loved the world over, and the perfect choice for your chronic stresses. If you are ready to schedule your massage appointment in Austin, TX, please call today at 512-529-0027.
